What We Teach

The Bible

All 66 books of the Bible are God’s inspired Word (2 Timothy 3:16).  It is always true, never wrong, completely trustworthy and our highest authority.

God

God does now, has always and will forever exist in three equal Persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-3).

The Father

God the Father is the first person of the Trinity.  He is perfect in every good way.  He is all-powerful, all-knowing and always present.  He created the Universe and everything in it.  He loves, actively sustains and sovereignly controls all of His creation. 

The Son

God the Son is equal to the Father.  He voluntarily became a human being, named Jesus of Nazareth.  Jesus is both fully God and fully human.  He lived a perfect and sinless life.  He obeyed the Father in all things, taught God’s will with supreme authority, performed many miracles, rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven – where He currently sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us.

The Holy Spirit

God the Holy Spirit is the third equal Person of the Trinity.  He thinks, feels and has a will.  He brings non-believers to know Christ by convicting them of their sins and point them to Jesus.  He unites believers with Christ in faith and continually works in believers to make us more like Christ.

Human Beings

All human beings are made by God in His Image.  Therefore, every person has inherent dignity, value, meaning and purpose.  God made us perfect, but allowed us choice.  Adam and Eve used that choice in the Garden, and we each continue daily to use our choice, to sin and rebel against God.  We were made to glorify God, but instead we choose to glorify ourselves.

Salvation

Our sins separate us from God and make us His enemy.  We each deserve His full wrath as the just punishment for our sins.  We are hopelessly unable to make ourselves right with God.  But in His love and mercy, Jesus Christ took the punishment we deserve.  On the cross, He paid the price for our sins and made us right with God.  This was God’s plan before He even created the world!  We accept this gift by trusting Jesus as our Savior.  Genuine saving faith will also lead us to obey Him as our Lord.  Though salvation is offered to all, only a few accept it.

Christ’s Return

Jesus will come back in full glory and power and usher in the New Heaven and Earth.  All the dead will be raised and everyone will receive an imperishable resurrected body.  He will sit as the ultimate judge of all mankind, as we will all personally and individually appear before Him to receive judgement.  Those who trust and obey Him will receive eternal life in His Kingdom, in perfect friendship with Him.  There will be no pain, sorrow, hurt or death in this eternal life.  Those who do not receive Him as Lord and Savior will receive eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire.

Little Christs

The word Christian literally means “Little Christ.”  Having been saved by Christ, and guided by the Holy Spirit, our lives should look more-and-more like Jesus every day.  God cares about the way we live and the choices we make.  He tells us how He wants us to live and what is best for us in the Bible.  We will not live perfectly in this life, but we have to fight against temptation and distance ourselves from our sins.

The Church

Jesus called individuals to follow Him as a group.  Though saving faith is personal, our Christian walk is not.  Jesus intends for all Christians to walk together.  The purpose of the church is three-fold: Worship God, Mature Christians in Faith, and Bless the World (through evangelism and missions).

The Sacraments

We observe two sacraments in this church: Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.  Baptism should rightly be done as a response to our faith.  The Lord’s Supper is open to all who acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Our Promise

As a Congregational church we are united together not by our doctrines and creeds but by the promise (covenant) that we 

voluntarily make to each other:

"We covenant with you, O God, and with one another to walk together in 

all your ways, as you reveal yourself to us in your blessed word of truth.  

We work and pray for the transformation of the world into the Kingdom of God and look with faith for the triumph of eternal life."

What in the world is a Congregationalist?

Congregationalists trace our history back to the Pilgrims (yes those Pilgrims).  We commonly express the core of Congregationalism as Faith, Freedom and Fellowship.

Faith is the foundation of the Christian life and our walk with God.  God has saved us from our sins, redeemed us and called us His own.  By faith, we take hold of these truths and claim the promises of Scripture as our own.  “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all” (Isaiah 7:9).

The Freedom of each individual and each church to follow Christ is the distinctive part of Congregationalism.  Every follower of Christ must take ownership of their own faith and follow Christ where He is leading them through His Word and His Spirit.  In addition, each church is independent, self-directed and self-governing.  Every Christian has been given direct access to God through the Holy Spirit, which means that the best group of people to make decisions on behalf of a local church is the members of that church.

Fellowship is essential in the Christian life.  From the very beginning of the church, the fellowship of believers has been instrumental.  “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).  No believer was ever meant to walk alone.  The church is the gathered community of Christians.

What should I expect?

At FCC we want to make God accessible to you.  We believe that Worship should be enjoyable, uplifting and 

enlightening.  Our Worship services typically last about an hour and 15 minutes and you can expect:

• A relaxed, warm and casual atmosphere
• A mix of traditional and modern music
• Relevant, engaging Biblical teaching
• An authentic and caring community of people
• 
  

How should I dress?

Dress however you are comfortable.  You will see everything here from 

TShirts and shorts to shirts and ties.What’s going on inside matters a lot more than how you look on the outside.  The Bible says, “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

Can I bring my kids?

Absolutely!  We make God accessible to all ages.  For our littlest ones, we have a nursery staffed by professional child care givers.  For kids in grades K-6 we have an awesome team of teachers that love teaching youth about Jesus in fun, engaging and interactive ways.  And those beyond 6th grade are encouraged to join us during the service.

Will I be expected to give?

As a visitor in our church you are not expected to give any money.  Our church is financially supported by the cheerful giving of our members.
