About Our Covenant

Covenant is a concept deeply rooted in scripture and a word that speaks of the relationships people have with God and with one another. At First Congregational Church of Mukwonago, we gather together as God’s people in a Covenant Relationship. At the center of “the Congregational Way” lies this idea of Covenant. Thus, we express our relationship to God and one another in a Covenant statement gathered from two historical documents:

We covenant with you, O God, and with one another to walk together in all your ways, as you reveal yourself to us in your blessed word of the truth. — Based on the Salem Covenant of 1629

We work and pray for the transformation of the world into the Kingdom of God; and look with faith for the triumph of eternal life. — Taken from the Kansas City Statement of Faith 1913

The Statement of Our Covenant

We seek to be a growing body of Christian believers characterized by a loving, forgiving, accepting community, modeled after the Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ, where people can grow to their full spiritual potential. We embrace our mission to provide the spiritual presence of Christianity in the lives of all, by sharing the collective resources of Jesus Christ, the Church, and the congregation. Therefore, we covenant with you, O God, and with one another to walk together in all your ways, as you reveal yourself to us in your blessed word of the truth. We work and pray for the transformation of the world into the Kingdom of God; and look with faith for the triumph of eternal life.

While we cling to traditional Christian beliefs (that which has been held by all Christians, at all times, in all places) we have no “prescribed creed” to which one must adhere in order to belong in our fellowship. Rather, recognizing that we all see “through a glass darkly” (1 Cor. 13:12), we strive to be God’s people as we seek God’s Will for our lives; joining God in His work in the world. Covenant is the glue that holds us together as God’s church and the vision which propels us into the future. We encourage you to pray about joining with us in Covenant.
